Terry finishes top at district

Girls take first, boys second at District 4-C meet

The Terry track teams displayed their strengths in a range of running and field events during the District 4C meet in Glendive last week, earning the girls team a first place finish, while the boys placed second – just eight points shy of the top spot.

All 17 of Terry’s track athletes will be moving on to the Divisional meet this week in Laurel.
Some highlights in Terry’s performances at the District 4C meet included a whopping 10 first place finishes garnered by the Terry girls. Dani Dukart placed first in four field events, Carly Stickel finished first in the 400 and 800 runs while Freshmen Caitlin Lantis and Caty Morrison added three more first place results to the team’s efforts. Lantis placed first in the 1600 and 3200 while Morrison earned her top spot in the pole vault. The girls relay team finished first in the 1600 relay run as well.
On the boys’ side, seven first place finishes were tallied. Jerett Freiboth earned 30 points for his team, placing first in the shot, discus and javelin, while junior Trevor Pisk demonstrated a great day at his first district meet placing first in the pole vault, second in the javelin and triple jump. Sophomores Layne Lantis and Sergey Fredrickson added three more first place finishes to the teams scores with Lantis placing first in the 1600 and 3200 runs while Fredrickson earned the top spot in the 800.
Noting the tough competition facing Terry’s teams at the upcoming Divisional 6C meet, head coach Leann Lantis says with consistent efforts Terry should come away with good results.
“(It) is the toughest district in C,” Lantis said in a written statement. “We are going to need some kids to step up at divisional and throw and run their personal bests to move on to state in Missoula.”
Among the events to watch will be the girls 1600 relay event.
“(The) girls 1600m relay will be a fun relay to watch with the Terry girls having one of the top times,” Lantis said.
