It’ll be Terry versus Terry and according to Terry High School girls basketball head coach Sharilyn Kortum it should be a good match.
“With this group of kids, they’re competitive,” Kortum said of the 2010-11 girls basketball team. “They want to play against a good team.” Adding, “It’ll be good.”
And with the likes of 2004 THS alumnus Lacey Haughian, who plays professional basketball in Germany and 2009 THS alumnus Micah Kirkpatrick, who is in her second year playing for Miles Community College, the Lady Terriers will have the fierce competition they’re looking for. Other THS alumni returning to their familiar home court include Robin Reukauf, Natasha Fredrickson and Kalli Householder.
With the regular four 8 minute quarters, the Dec. 30, 6 p.m. game, is set to be as real as it can get. Because of game scheduling conflicts and Rosebud’s loss of a varsity team the Lady Terriers were left two games short of the required 18 games. The alumni game will count as a conference game for the high school team.
Recent revisions to Montana High School Association rules prohibit high school teams from scrimmaging with alumni players, but allow conference games against alumni teams.
Kortum also hopes a boys’ alumni versus alumni game will follow the girls game. If enough interest is generated, that game will begin at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30. Those interested in playing can contact Kortum at (406) 951-3698.
There will be free admission for the Dec. 30 game and the concession stand will be open.
Alumni games held over the Christmas holiday were once common, Kortum recalled. It’s a tradition she would like to see return.
“It’s kind of neat to get everybody back on the court.”
