Wibaux team grabs top spot during Sunday’s Ranch Rodeo competition

It was a blistering hot day for competitors and spectators alike during the 10th annual Terry Ranch Rodeo held in conjunction with the Prairie County Fair on Sunday, August 8.  The roster was full as twelve teams from surrounding areas traveled to town for the competition. 

Teams and their home towns are: 1. Glendive Livestock – Glendive Amanda Sportsman, Larry Evans, Jordan DeSaye, Alan Doane, and Gary Ingraham. 2. Pumpkin Creek Crew – Miles City Derik Pierce, Ryle Harms, Russ Burrows, Natalie Burrows, and Gordon Schaffer. 3. Can Am Crew – Miles City Dan Bird, John Henry Beardsley, Cole Cook, Wes Davenport, and Kelsey Haughian. 4. Northfork Buffalo Ranch - Glendive Zane Dempewolf, Autumn Dempewolf, Justin Hoffman, Bruce Johnson, and Luke McDonald.  5. Peterson & Ross Trucking – Terry/Jordan Grant Peterson, Seth Redding, Mason Ross, Trevor Ross, and Randa DeCock.  6. Rieger Fencing – Ismay Cody Rieger, Scot Rieger, Andrea Rieger, Kerry Erickson, and Lorin Larsen.  7. Dawson County Vet Clinic – Glendive Wes Kirkaldie, Torrie Kirkaldie, Don Evans, Jim Streigel, & Alf Idland. 8. Nemitz-Grindstone Cattle Company Kirby Nemitz, Joe Nemitz, Maggie Nemitz, Ben Anderson, and Clint Bainter. 9. Cowpokes – Terry Pat O’Neill, Dan Harrington, Tim Hudson, Tim Kortum, and Sharilyn Kortum. 10. The Slaves – Wibaux Cody Ferguson, Lucas Smith, Robin Smith, Jeremy Tahista, and Mindy Verwolf. 11. Shamrock Club –Wibaux Justin Fleming, Destry Northrup, Bill Hecker, JD Hutchison, and Heidi Petermann.  12. E & S Livestock – Terry Ed Shearer, Cody Holman, TW Kincheloe, Charlie Ferguson, and Elisha Fisher.
Taking first this year and receiving belt buckles donated by Terry and Eileen Nielsen, Mark and Brenda Dolatta, Sherm and Sharon Fluss, Rich and Karen Gray and Meidinger and Son Trucking, was the The Slaves from Wibaux. In addition to the buckles, the team received $700. 
Placing second and receiving breast collars donated by the Terry Roping Club and $525 was Northfork Buffalo Ranch. Placing third and receiving $350 was The Pumpkin Creek Crew. Receiving the fourth place check for $175 was E&S Livestock.
Tim Hess and Steve Thoeny purchased the first place team and were the lucky Calcutta winners in the average. They walked away with winnings of $700. Purchasing the second place team in the average, Doug Singleton and Sherm Fluss garnered $420. Billie Harms collected $280 for buying the third place team.
Placing first through third in each event respectively are the following teams: Team Penning –Nemitz-Grindstone Cattle Co., Shamrock Club, The Slaves. Team Branding –E&S Livestock, Glendive Livestock, Northfork Buffalo Ranch. Double Mugging –Northfork Buffalo Ranch, E&S Livestock, Pumpkin Creek Crew. Team Doctoring – The Slaves, Pumpkin Creek Crew, Northfork Buffalo Ranch.  Trailer Race –The Slaves, Nemitz-Grindstone Cattle Company, Shamrock Club.
Two events were auctioned off in the Calcutta. Winning the team penning Calcutta for buying Nemitz-Grindstone Cattle Company was Kenny Nemitz, earning $383. Second and third place was won by Jim Baisch as he purchased Shamrock Club ($230) and The Slaves ($153).
In the trailer race event Calcutta, Daryl Havens was the top winner as he purchased The Slaves. He won $520. Kenny Nemitz pulled in another $312 for purchasing the second place team of Nemitz-Grindstone Cattle Company. Dick Scheetz brought in $208 as he purchased the third place Shamrock Club.
