Hysham’s potent offense gets best of Terrier gridders

The 2009 Homecoming football game pitted the Terriers against the third ranked Hysham Pirates. Although both teams came out fired up and ready for afternoon action, the Pirates came away with a 60-20 win over the Terriers.

Hysham was the first team to strike as they scored on a three yard pass play. Terry didn’t back down as they put together a sixty-five yard drive of their own. It consisted of nine plays with Jerett Freiboth finding Tanner Stickel open for a 27 yard touchdown pass. After missing the extra point, the score was tied 6-6.
The score stayed 6-6 until the second quarter when Hysham found the end zone three times to bring the score to 26-6 at the half.
Terry wasn’t ready to roll over yet and started the second half with the ball. After a 20 yard kickoff return by Weston Luedtke, Terry drove 57 yards in 8 plays with Freiboth finding Stickel for a 9 yard touchdown pass; after Freiboth¹s kick the score was 26-14.
Unfortunately, Terry was unable to stop the potent offensive attack of the Pirates. Hysham scored on their next two possessions to take a 41-14 lead. Terry then put together another 9 play drive as Freiboth again found Stickel for a 13 yard touchdown strike as time in the third quarter expired.
Hysham led 41-20 entering the final quarter. Terry was unable to find the end zone again while Hysham scored three more touchdown¹s bringing the final score to 60-20.
Freiboth led the offensive attack with 277 passing yards throwing three touchdown passes to Stickel as well as having 48 receiving yards on just three catches. Stickel caught twelve passes for 255 yards and led the defense with eleven tackles.
Head coach Casey Schladweiler is confident his team still has time to turn things around.
“We just haven’t been able to get over that hump,” he stated. “We need to minimize our mistakes and capitalize more on our opponent’s.”
