Saturday’s 90-plus temperatures set the backdrop as Terry took on the Savage Warriors in a high scoring football game. Unfortunately the Terriers came up just short 76-70.
Terry started off the game with a three-play 50 yard drive capped off by a 45-yard touchdown pass from Jerett Freiboth to Weston Luedtke. Savage answered right back returning the kickoff 45 yards for a touchdown. On the next possession Freiboth hit Tanner Stickel for a 40-yard gain that set up a 2 yard touchdown run by Luedtke, with Freiboth’s extra point kick the score sat at 16-6. Savage then converted a 4th and 6 with a 30 yard completion that set up a 6-yard touchdown run by the Warriors. Terry moved the ball well on their next possession and Luedtke capped off a six play 56 yard drive with a 3 yard TD run.
After forcing a punt by the Warriors, Terry was at the one yard line. On the 1st play of the drive the offensive line made a big hole and Luedtke ran the ball 79 yards for the score. Savage then scored on their next possession bringing the score to 30-22. After a missed field goal by the Warriors, Luedtke again found a big hole and scored from 40 yards out. Both teams would score again bringing the halftime score to 45-30 Terry.
Terry kicked off to start the 2nd half and Sergey Fredrickson recovered the kickoff. Terry moved the ball 34 yards to the end zone with Trevor Pisk finding Freiboth for a 10 yard TD pass. Savage would find the end zone twice in the third bringing the score to 51-46 entering the final quarter.
Savage would take the lead on a 4 yard touchdown run by Clayton Eskridge. On Terry’s next possession Freiboth found Stickel for a 63 yard touchdown pass. Savage would score on their next two possessions taking a 70-57 lead. Terry would answer back with a 63 yard drive capped off by a 10 yard TD pass from Freiboth to Stickel. After failing to recover an onside kick, Savage needed just one play to score again taking a76-64 lead. After a 20 yard gain by Trevor Pisk, Terry scored a 40 yard TD on a trick play that had Luedtke finding the end zone again. Terry was unable to recover the onside kick and Savage was able to run out the clock, win ning the game 76-70.
“I am pleased with the effort we put forth today, but unfortunately we came up just a bit short. How often do you score 70 points in a game, let alone 70 points and lose,” head coach Casey Schladweiler stated. “We played much better this week than last, and all we can ask is that these young men keep playing hard and improving and the wins will come.”
Weston Luedtke led the offensive output with 285 rushing yards scoring 6 times on the ground and catching another TD pass. Jerett Freiboth was 13-23 passing for 267 yards and 3 TD’s. Tanner Stickel led the receivers with 220 yards on 11 catches for 2 TD’s. Stickel also had 148 yards on kickoff returns and led the defense with 5 solo and 8 assisted tackles. “These young men may have led the charge, but it was a total team effort with everyone who played playing an important role in getting these guys opportunity to make the big plays.”
Terry hosts Great Falls Central on Saturday for a non-conference game that starts at 1 p.m.
