Few filings arriving for open town positions

Only two people have filed for the four open Town of Terry positions, according to the Prairie County Clerk and Recorder’s office.

Ken Lacquement has filed for mayor, while Clinton Rakes has filed for a Ward I town council position.
Both Ward I incumbent town councilmen Ron Kiosse and Josh Helmuth indicted earlier their intention to re-file.
Mayor Marvin Varner, who has served as town mayor for 26 years, will not run for re-election. Ward II town councilman Elden Netzer will also be finishing out his service on the council, at the end of his term.
The four open positions include two Ward I council seats, one seat from Ward II and town mayor.  Ward I candidates must live west of Logan Avenue, while Ward II candidates must live east of Logan Avenue.
Candidates seeking the mayor position must live within the state for three years and within Terry for two years.
The filing deadlines is July 2 at 5 p.m. Applications can be picked up at the clerk and recorder’s office at the Prairie County Courthouse. There is a $15 filing fee.
