Four Terry tracksters head to state

The Terry track team traveled to Billings Sky View High School for the Southern C Divisional on Thursday, with four members coming home with top five placings, earning them a trip to the state competition in Butte.

“The boys again proved to be strongest in javelin, coming away with both first and second finishes,” head coach Leann Lantis said. She noted Weston Luedtke’s strong performance in the shot put as well. Luedtke came up short one inch from a fifth place finish.

Results:
Mike Poucher, javelin, 153-1, first place.
Jerett Freiboth, javeline 149-1, second place.
Weston Luedtke, shot put, 40-2, sixth place.
David Hyer also participated in the the divisional track meet.
In the girls’ team Dani Dukart had a strong performance moving on in three of the five events she competed in, Lantis noted.
“She’s just a a tremendous all-around athlete,” Lantis said. “She should have a strong showing at state.”
Another highlight from the girls’ team was Carly Stickel‘s performance in the 400m run. She was able to knock off three seconds from the previous week’s time at the district competition in Miles City.
What may have been the biggest disappoint of the day, occurred after Robbyn Reukauf ran her personal best in the 1600m run with a time of 6:15 and fifth place finish,  only to be disqualified for taking three strides inside the white line. A judge deemed that Reukauf had moved inside the track, past the white line, Lantis explained.
“I was just very disappointed in their decision,” Lantis said noting she appealed the ruling to the rules committee. “Robbyn has been a strong competitor and has been great to work with all season long,” Lantis said. “She’ll be greatly missed next year.”
Results:
Carly Stickel, 200m, 28.94, sixth place; 400m, 1:05, third place.
Dani Dukart, high jump, 4-8, fifth place; shot put, 32-6, fourth place; javelin, 105, fifth place.
Franque Robertson also competed at the divisional meet.
The four Terry tracksters along with their coaches will depart Thursday morning to participate in the two-day state meet held Friday and Saturday at Bulldog Stadium in Butte.
