Coach Greg Mendenhall
The Terriers traveled to Geraldine this last Saturday to take on the Geraldine/Highwood Rivals. It was a beautiful day for a playoff game, but alas the game was not as pretty as the weather. My Terriers were a little beat up going into the game, and the Rivals were ready to play this lead to a 61 to 40 Rival victory.
The Terriers started with the ball, but couldn’t hold onto it long. The common theme to our losses this season has been turnovers and that is how this one started.
The first play from scrimmage was a fumble by the Terriers, recovered by the Rivals. Four fumbles in the first quarter lead to a 36 to 0 deficit for the Terriers.
They stiffened up the defense and played some offense but it was not enough to bring home a victory.
Scoring for the Terriers was as follows: Justin Kinn 3 TD passing; Tyler Sackman 1 TD rushing, 1 receiving; Kyle Lassle 1 kick return TD, 1 TD passing; Austin Smith 1 TD receiving, 2 PAT kicking; Austin Kountz 1 TD receiving; Trevin Schroeber 1 TD receiving.
The defense was stuck with a short field for much of the first quarter and that is where most of the points were given up. They were still able to make the Rivals earn the yards they gained.
Defensive stats: Tyler Sackman 11 tackles, 1 fumble recovery; Kyle Lassle 12 tackles; Jordan Lassle 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 blocked kick; Austin Kountz 5 tackles; Trevin Schroeber 3 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 1 pass batted down; Austin Smith 3 tackles, 1 fumble recovery; Connor Self 3 tackles; Lane Stickle 3 tackles; Justin Kinn 2 tackles; Zak Gierke 1 tackle.
Congratulations go out to the team for playing hard every game this season and never giving up. I am looking forward to updating the school records, I know we have broken some 6 man records.
