Memorial Day service will honor Veterans

A Memorial Day service will be held at the Prairie County Cemetery May 27, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The presentation will include Master of Ceremonies Glen Medinger and Sergeant of Arms Tim Rittal. John ‘Lum’ Latimer will lead the prayer service.
This year’s service will include guest speaker Greg Mendenhall. Mendenhall, who was raised in the Terry area, graduating from Terry High School in 1994, served with the U.S. Navy for one year, shortly after graduation. He was stationed at Norfolk, Va., serving on the U.S.S. Nassau.
Acknowledging his brief military service, Mendenhall says it doesn’t keep him from appreciating and valuing the service of others.
“I definitely understand the sacrifice of those who have served,” Mendenhall said. “I’m honored to recognize those that did make sacrifices for our country.”
Some of those Veterans come from within his family — with both grandfathers serving during WWII and his dad, Glen Mendenhall of Circle, serving during the Vietnam War.
Mendenhall and his wife Theresa and their five children have made Terry their home for the past four years. He is employed at Terry Schools, teaching high school science classes.
