After strong performance at Elks, Terriers push forward to District meet in Baker

With four meets under their belt including a strong showing at Glendive’s Elks meet this past weekend, the Terriers track team is heading into the District meet with high expectations.

“Glendive was our test to see if we’re ready,” head coach Leann Lantis said. “And we’re ready.”
The District meet will be held in Baker on Monday, May 6.
Lantis pointed to two performances that stood out at the Elks meet — Josh Stickel’s triple jump of 41-1/2 feet and Halle Keltner’s discus throw of 101-9 feet.
“All 16 kids earned personal records,” Lantis said of the team’s overall performance during the two-day meet in Glendive. “I was proud of all of them.”
The team of 17 will be taking a whopping 10 to compete in the Top Ten Meet in Glasgow on Wednesday, May 1, where the top placers from the northeast division of the state will compete. It’s a high number that other teams are taking note of, Lantis said, pointing out the number of participants coming from Terry match up with some of the Class A and B schools’ numbers that boast bigger teams.
Those qualifying to compete at the Top Ten Meet include: Boys 1,600 relay team (Josh Stickel, Kyle Lassle, Layne Lantis and Logan Braddock), girls 1,600 relay (Caty Morrison, Layna Grue, Caitlin Lantis and Lindsay Stickel), Halle Keltner shot and discus throws, Caty Morrison pole vault, Lindsay Stickel long and triple jumps, Caitlin Lantis 1,600 and 3,200 runs, Layne Lantis 1,600 and 3,200 runs, Josh Stickel triple jump and Lane Stickel 800 meter run.
The Terriers will also compete in the May 4th John Polich Cowgirl-Cowboy Invitational Track Meet in Miles City. Due to the meet’s close date to the May 6th District meet, the team will compete minimally at the Miles City Invite.
“We won’t be running many of our regular events,” Lantis said, noting the one-day recovery time between meets.
