Clara Heitz Vowel, age 91, of Terry, MT, passed peacefully with her daughters by her side on February 23, 2013 at Prairie County Hospital in Terry, Mont.
Clara Heitz Vowel was born September 20, 1921 to Theodore & Justina Heitz in Watkins, Mont. She attended grade school in Watkins before moving to Terry, Mont., where she graduated high school in 1940. Buzz and Clara were married in Roswell, N.M., on May 1, 1942. After moving around in the oil fields for a few years, Buzz and Clara moved to Terry in 1952. Clara was “home”. Their children are Donnie, Sue, Delbert and Patty. Buzz and Clara bought the Yellowstone Bar & Café on June 20, 1965. In their 24 years’ operating they had many “Feeds & Dances”, Clara loved to cook big meals such as – prime rib, fish, mutton, rocky mountain oysters, bear and buffalo just about anything Buzz could hunt Clara would cook. Someone would walk through the front door and Clara would get their favorite steak and taters on the grill.
She loved her grandkids and was always interested in where and what they were doing. She even recalled her great-grandkids when she talked to her kids.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Justina Heitz; brothers and wives, Raymond & Lorraine Heitz, Ervin & Clara Heitz; sisters and husbands, Rosalie & Leo Brost, Ruth & Tom Roos & infant sister Leona; son, Delbert Roy in 1967 and niece Sheila Roos Rakes in 2011. She is survived by her children, Donnie (Barb) Vowel, of Billings, Mont., his family, ex-wife Diane Anderson, their children, Dreama (Mike) Nelson, Justin and Morgan, of Cedar City, Utah, Donna Vowel, of Las Vegas, Nev., step children, Theresa Bennett, Taylor, Tim, and Travis of Billings, Kim (Royce) Davies, Mike of Columbus, Mont.; daughters, Sue Sikveland, of Glendive, Mont., her children, Jeannie (Neil) Spracklen and Cody of Harvey, LA, twins Jamie and Joey Crusch, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Patty (Lewis) Ler, of Fallon, Mont., their children, Andy Ler, daughter Josie of Glendive, Mont., Molly Anderson (Darryl Pisk), her children Adrian, Alyssa of Miles City, Mont., Kate (Sam) Bushell , Max of Fairbanks, Alaska. Joni Ler (Junior Fischer) and her children Jaxon and Kimber of Fallon. Tara (Tony) LeNoir, of Williston, N.D.
A private family graveside will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at the Prairie County Cemetery. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Terry.
Should friends desire, memorials can be made to the Prairie Community Hospital, please designate to the Activities Department, as Clara and the residents get so much enjoyment from the daily activities.
