They are lining up and ready to play. That’s according Sharilyn Kortum, one of a handful of organizers preparing for the crowd pleasing and popular alumni basketball games. With players spanning from 1976 to 2012 graduates, this year’s games are sure to entertain, Kortum said.
The “Annual Close-up Basketball Tournament” featuring Terry High School alumni and other players with connections to Terry, will be held at the Ray Frank Gymnasium Saturday, Dec. 29. Games are set to begin with a men’s round at 4 p.m., followed by a women’s match-up at 5:30 and finishing with another men’s game at 7 p.m. Tickets at the door are $4 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. Funds raised will be used to help THS Close-up students with their 2014 trip to Washington D.C.
Concession stands will be open, offering chili, soup and carmel rolls as well as drinks and candy. Half-time entertainment will include the popular “Pop Shoot” that allows shooters a chance at winning a liter of cola.
So far 25 players have signed on to play for the boys’ teams with the girls gathering 16 players.
“This is really a popular and fun event for fans and players,” Kortum said. “It’s a great way to raise funds for a good cause as well.”
Rosters will be available at the game. Players are reminded to be ready to play at 4 p.m., as the boys’ teams have yet to be determined. Those who have played before are encouraged to bring their purple reversible, for those who haven’t played, uniform shirts can be purchased that evening.
