When volleyball practice begins later this month at Dawson County High School the Lady Red Devils will be under the direction of a new coach. Taking over the head coaching duties is Terry native Jasmine (Freiboth) Smart.

Smart graduated from Terry High School in 2007 and began her volleyball coaching career that same year. She attended Miles Community College after graduation and took on the head volleyball coaching job in Terry.
The Lady Terriers saw success immediately under Smart. Terry qualified for the divisional volleyball tournament in 2007 and 2008. Things got even better for Terrier volleyball in 2009 and 2010. Terry went to the State C meet in 2009 and finished fourth. In 2010 the Terriers won it all at the state meet. This was the final year Smart was the coach in Terry.
Smart continued her higher education at Montana Tech in Butte where she earned a degree in radiology. Smart is currently employed at BOSS in Glendive as a marketing assistant. Last year she married Glendive native Patrick Smart.
Stacey Stanfill will assist Smart with the coaching duties this fall and will be the JV coach. Rhonda Airheart will be the freshmen coach for the Lady Devils.
July 14-15, Smart held a Lady Red Devil volleyball camp. In all, approximately 20 athletes attended this camp. "I was really excited with the turnout," Smart noted. "It was nice to see six seniors show up for the camp," she added.
Practices for the Lady Red Devils’ volleyball program began on Monday, Aug. 13. Matches will begin early in September and the season will continue on into November. The Eastern A divisional tournament will be in Hardin with the State A tourney to be held in Bozeman. Smart will hold a parent/player meeting Wednesday, Aug. 15, after the teams’ practice.
"We won’t be that tall but I expect us to be good defensively as well as a smart team," said Smart. "We will start with the basics and then progress from there. I think we will have a nice fresh start with an all new coaching staff."
