The 2012 track season was met with Monday afternoon temperatures reaching into the high 50’s, followed by Tuesday’s balmy 70-plus temps.
It’s a kind of greeting the Terry High School track team hasn’t received in recent years, said head coach Leann Lantis, noting last year’s dismal weather conditions that strained practices and meet times.
Lantis and assistant coach Mike Ehinger began leading a portion of this year’s track team Monday. They won’t have their full team until next week, as the junior and senior players participating in the Close-Up program are visiting Washington D.C. this week.
So far 9 freshman and sophomore track and field players have met for practices. Lantis is anticipating those numbers to increase to about 15, once the remaining team returns.
Pointing to good enthusiasm from the team combined with cooperating weather conditions, Lantis noted this may be a season that can be enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
