A precarious position

Why enact zoning in Terry? That is one question several residents have asked town officials at recent public meetings.

Town officials point to the precarious position the Terry Town Council finds itself when approving or disapproving permits regarding building construction projects or animals.
According to Town Attorney Rebecca Convery, without zoning districts in place, the town’s building and animal permits could be disputed in court. Zoning districts address these kinds of issues and without those districts in place, the question could be raised whether the town of Terry has the authority to deny those kinds of permits.
